When you attend something with the the title "Waffle Party" its a given it will be awesome, but from our perspective it was more than a success. The great things about parties that are not at night is that most people really have no where to go. they dont feel like going home to sleep, or worried about a babysitter being out to late, you show up and sort of plant roots and hang out. Our Morning had its first guest at 9:05 am and its last guest at 1:35 pm, when the door closed for the last time we commented that we should do it again and how nice it is to have people excited to be over. This party was a confirmation of my last post, it was a real example of how full our box of chocolates is. <div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>Being behind the grill i got a chance to observe and what stuck out to me was how relaxed and at home everyone seemed to feel, from the minute Brad walked in and started describing his ticket to ride gameboard and his wife cooly walking by saying "Nerd" to Andrea showing up and just getting right in the kitchen to do her thing, it felt like a family. And thats as good a place as any to end this post.</div>Jacob and Angelikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17834656734375573266noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5925832881382707072.post-60798101193866037322011-02-16T17:53:00.000-08:002011-02-16T19:26:25.247-08:00Life is like a Box of chocolatesEver since watching tom hanks get shot in the buttocks, i have thought the above Title was an interesting saying. Today i use that metaphor to describe friends and relationships. I can say within the past year the people we have met and become friends with have helped to change our outlook and the way we view other people. They are people that have also helped to change us and make us better and hold us accountable. I would not of wrote this even a year ago but like a box of chocolates a few pieces went missing. Some moved away, some were without partners for a period of time, these changes brought on a different relationship or more likely the chance to see if a friendship was there or if there was more to it. <div>Blessed is a word not used enough, especially when you talk of friends. Family, for most of us that are lucky, will always be supportive, but friends are different. There is no blood tie, we did not grow up in the same house together, experience joy, sorrow, victory, defeat for the first time together. We met these people at what could be the most hectic time of our lives and we lean on them for support and someone to share the daily struggles of life. The bond grows, we can thank our children for that as every time they drive us crazy or refuse to listen, it makes us wonder where are friends are and what they're dealing with and how much better it would be if you were together while this happened. They resemble a spouse in many ways. The challenge is to bring it past that common bond and bring it deeper. My wife is in a moms bible study and there is no better way to remember that your an individual, and your friends for more than the fact that you are in the same stage of life. This can even apply to hockey, while we are not in study of the Word, we are studying each other and getting to see the real person, there is no hiding anger, frustration, or the ability to deal with others in the heat of competition like hockey. We get to see how human we are and how much we need each other to hold us up.</div><div>Our box of chocolates is full, is yours ?</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Jacob and Angelikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17834656734375573266noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5925832881382707072.post-80786846597342249872011-02-09T23:23:00.000-08:002011-02-10T00:36:10.985-08:00The Solution is RelationalYou can sometimes forget that being a member of a church is good thing, this is never more evident than when you attend a church meeting. Members are gathered, papers are being rustled and there are always a couple dudes standing in the back pacing. Sitting through a meeting that occupies 4 hours of your night can be testing but it can also be rewarding because its plainly obvious people are there to help the church grow and be better and are concerned about its well being. I try to never roll my eyes at comments or wonder why some people are so plainly retarded when it comes to numbers, i never disregard someones comments as useless but i do see people act like this towards others and it makes me wonder, has no one got the patience to let someone talk and voice there opinion even if it seems ridiculous to you. As time wears on your patience grows thin and simple things like moving one slide further in your power point would answer ten peoples questions but the guy using it keeps pointing the remote at the wall wondering why the slab of drywall is not responding can get frustrating, but the questions are not and many valid points were made. I was sitting beside a friend and when it came time to vote we voted differently (another mistake in my opinion because everyone can see who votes no or yes, intimidating to some) there was no wrong way to vote, even though he did, and i was interested as to why we voted differently, this in no way affected our friendship and we had a simple conversation about it. I read my sisters blog and felt what she wrote could be applied to our church body. take a read at her handiwork:<div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; ">A friend came over tonight to offer some guidance to a housemate about her future plans, which ended up sparking a conversation about our current jobs and conflicts we are facing. As we delved into the struggles of 'serving' for a year, of recognizing broken systems and the need for Christian support and vision, my friend stated ever so simply and clearly that "in the end, whether it is large-scale problems or small, the solution is relational."<div><div><br /></div><div>This morning was like a real-life metaphor (is that self-contradictory?). Our garbage day is Wednesday, always has been, always will be for the entirety of our lives in Buffalo. And yet we consistently scramble to put the big blue bin out to the curb in time for the garbagemen to do their job. This morning I woke up earlier than usual and peeked out the front window with the whimsical idea that I would be gently awoken by the scene of fresh snow and thus inspired to get ready for my workday. Instead I saw the blue bins shoved into the mounds of snow on everyones curb but ours. I grabbed a coat and shoved my pyjama pants into a pair of boots and in a mad dash I skidded out the door. To my relief and then panic, the garbage truck was at our neighbours, and without hesitation I yanked our big old bin (almost overflowing at this point) out of its icy cave and onto the walkway. I was halfway down to the curb when it toppled on its side; I tried to motivate myself by yelling 'C'MON!' to the world and with an unexpected surge of adrenaline I pulled it through the snowdrift it was now planted in, like some old horse that refused to move. Unfortunately this really only pushed the bin further into the drift. Crouched there in my pyjamas making weird puffy noises, my hero comes along. "Hey girly, whatcha doing?" Our local garbageman literally jumped over the bank of snow (overtaking what used to be the sidewalk) and took it from my hands, rescuing me from any further embarrassment and stressed muscles. Beneath his scruffy grey beard he smiled and told me not to worry, this was his job, and I hopped back inside with great relief.</div></div><div><br /></div><div>Needless to say I didn't need my coffee that morning.</div><div><br /></div><div>It strikes me how simple service can be. How beautiful that garbageman suddenly became. A simple struggle (maybe simple to some) of bringing the garbage to the curb was resolved by the inclusion of another person. The solution is relational... and isn't this where grace flourishes? We often think we can solve our problems or reach our dreams if we strengthen ourselves as individuals. But the most beautiful solutions are when we share our stories.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div></span></div><div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; "><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:Arial, sans-serif;font-size:100%;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px;"><br /></span></span></div></div>Jacob and Angelikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17834656734375573266noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5925832881382707072.post-73252556252817523262011-01-30T00:38:00.000-08:002011-01-30T01:28:52.467-08:00Elizabeth Sophia Hummelman<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXtqbJy_eILik2BDvOF1cnqRZSI_eq77mwJ1CIwwVGerOC9_2_RXv7HG0u_1ND6ATVd5XEVV49ajhRpQq6_6SHYo4DMIsj-xkN5LSho-zhveK5fPKKmKx46tJkMcrnIXF1WikOCRNqkgU/s1600/IMG_5505.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXtqbJy_eILik2BDvOF1cnqRZSI_eq77mwJ1CIwwVGerOC9_2_RXv7HG0u_1ND6ATVd5XEVV49ajhRpQq6_6SHYo4DMIsj-xkN5LSho-zhveK5fPKKmKx46tJkMcrnIXF1WikOCRNqkgU/s320/IMG_5505.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5567907556434044482" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjlIhMTDme9ZQkWq1J0TivGZW8e3CBGkMB6rCk66ZKaqHJjS9QHVOkPE9hCrSmR3ggEEFHj-VM0EH7672ZHCnNVOu41FyX4lUZ_b1ZWRUluRoimNSw0DhTKnI4xzDxa3nbaV_Lh9whFsM/s1600/IMG_5511.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjlIhMTDme9ZQkWq1J0TivGZW8e3CBGkMB6rCk66ZKaqHJjS9QHVOkPE9hCrSmR3ggEEFHj-VM0EH7672ZHCnNVOu41FyX4lUZ_b1ZWRUluRoimNSw0DhTKnI4xzDxa3nbaV_Lh9whFsM/s320/IMG_5511.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5567907551256955810" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTb1ulVlmGpnVYqbNV7oyZmMR_tSSGj4VF7yDhKA4d2_2SU0Pen0mqS5gERhJ9OX3FKKlgDMxK6AYNDvbzKSYSETCqfPYj_6QJuTuUWVN9GgY0oE6aI7T04_6gDwSaapuPhNXfsvUQmSs/s1600/IMG_5493.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTb1ulVlmGpnVYqbNV7oyZmMR_tSSGj4VF7yDhKA4d2_2SU0Pen0mqS5gERhJ9OX3FKKlgDMxK6AYNDvbzKSYSETCqfPYj_6QJuTuUWVN9GgY0oE6aI7T04_6gDwSaapuPhNXfsvUQmSs/s320/IMG_5493.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5567906585335939762" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimnc9ZUuAnyVK7Z7_EL6xXQLB007BwvzaCYN0NaXRe6nF4kKrzxtZJnNAUPA_jirjSubLO2YZesTnUEIEP8V6w-2Jv5cacffx7CMmsWW0zjxW5fPgvwOo2pWiwNr_0FNpghvAQslZ6ROM/s1600/IMG_5478.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimnc9ZUuAnyVK7Z7_EL6xXQLB007BwvzaCYN0NaXRe6nF4kKrzxtZJnNAUPA_jirjSubLO2YZesTnUEIEP8V6w-2Jv5cacffx7CMmsWW0zjxW5fPgvwOo2pWiwNr_0FNpghvAQslZ6ROM/s320/IMG_5478.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5567906582710732850" /></a><br />the best stories should always be written down, and what better story than the birth of a child. Our story starts on friday morning, Angelika was a week overdue and was going to be induced. There was an excitement in the air as we exchanged longing eye glances and little smiles. It was like the morning of a road trip, the hustle bustle to get ready to leave and the knowledge that once we got in that car we would eventually reach an exciting destination, this one being the birth of our baby girl. We were given a room and spent the morning reading and lazing about. <div>Around 1 pm Contractions started for Angelika, mine didnt start till much later and most of it was centralized and embedded in my left hand. At 2:30 we were in the case room at which point my wife asked kindly for gas, 3 seconds later when it was not there she started demanding something stronger, no morphine was used and she settled into a nice rhythm sucking back gas and crushing my hand simultanously. </div><div>The doctor came in and decided to break her water which occured at 6:12 pm. A very controlled Angelika pushed the baby out at 6:18 pm and Elizabeth was born. She was a beautiful baby and a very good baby who slept most the night for us, The nurse came in to grab some paperwork and me and baby slept right through it. We had a great morning and were visited by friends, all female, which made realize that i may have bin the only male to go visit some of our other friends babies in the hospital. </div><div>A full 24 hours later we were released from hospital and headed home with our growing family, only to be back at the hospital 2 hours later as Angelika had a prolapsed uterus (google it if you really want to know). After seeing the doctor to make sure it was that and not something worse we finally got home at 11:30. Elizabeth was quiet the entire time we were there she just ate a bunch and slept and looked around and kept quiet, she earned our praise that night for being so cooperative.</div><div>We are finally Home !</div><div><br /></div><div>6 pounds 14 ounces Born at 6:18 pm on January 28.</div>Jacob and Angelikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17834656734375573266noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5925832881382707072.post-3744728707289172312011-01-18T18:14:00.000-08:002011-01-18T18:35:54.672-08:00A facebook status is much easier than a blog entry. mainly because that first line could be my status, this is like doing a homework assignment with a minimum amount of words, you start talking about nothing just to create them. <div>Baby time is getting pretty close here, the due date is 2 days away and we are wondering if we will be spending are weekend with another tiny baby girl or waiting for her to show up. Our other children are doing well, madison is going through the night without peeing herself and lukie has started his potty training, more pee has landed on the floor then his potty so far but its a start. Madison will get signed up for kindergarten in february and will start in september, this still seems a little weird because i didnt think this time of kids going to school would come so quick. My dad told me to hold on cause he says things will only go faster from here.</div><div>Im starting to see why my parents spent 15 years in the same house, and it had to do with us, Madison and Lukas (more madison) are creating friendships and this sense of community is what will keep us here for so long, she knows what streets her friends live on, she loves going to there house and is the first person to pack a bag for a sleepover. For Me and Angelika it is nice having friends all around us, I know that things change and people move but as a kid growing up the same people lived in my alleyway with the same friends, part of me hopes this never changes and everyone stays put and we can all grow together. Hopefully my next blog entry involves a baby.</div>Jacob and Angelikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17834656734375573266noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5925832881382707072.post-36082781879223450702010-11-18T22:52:00.000-08:002010-11-18T23:51:09.332-08:00Growing up and Growing OldGrowing up and Growing old. Pretty simple i suppose I continue to grow up with my children but oddly i also seem to get older with them and as i get older i like to look back at what brought me here, in this case i only look back 4 years, we recently celebrated madison and lukas birthdays, im pretty sure my life changed that moment, i did not recognize it then because i was to busy crying and taking pictures of everything in our room to my wifes delight but my world shrunk into my hands in the form a naked baby girl. I was 23 and really had no clue what i was doing, i treated this baby like a highschool assignment and winged it, except my mom couldnt write poems for writing class this time. 4 years have passed and i cant remember a better four years, i had a son in those 4 years, i celebrated 5 years with Angelika. I could write down pages of memories over these years but i suppose reminiscing is not something you do while writing. i think the point i was getting to was that i love being a father, and all the awesome first memories of being that kind of got in the way. In 2 weeks december starts, in 6 weeks it is christmas and in 9 weeks another baby joins our household so we will continue to Grow up and grow old.<div><br /></div>Jacob and Angelikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17834656734375573266noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5925832881382707072.post-33076655827860178702010-09-18T23:33:00.001-07:002010-09-19T00:02:48.504-07:00<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiq3LSVdNibZ2W1VkJweLmeasiOs48WfAm_jkIPzFo66rrZ6Jw94LWR5WKiYjS_Tgivb4ZtT4HHHsJJZ76K6VStcnYPMCYphUh-1hfb2mx7ik23oMyngTOZvN-M2_8TZ-R0twTPVM7_Vus/s1600/IMG_0082.JPG"><img style="display:block; One would be my sister Jo who in her busy schedule has updated twice in the last month, and two I think Amanda told me to and history has taught me not to mess with redheads (Angelikas sister is also a redhead). Summer has ended and that glorious season of fall is coming which means a new start to a new season...more specifically the office, ncis los angeles and some show called the event. Lots of people say tv is a waste of your time, even people who watch lots say that, but is it really.. Yes. it is. but who cares if i didnt watch tv from 8-10 what would i seriously be doing with my time ? Me and Angelika both enjoy sitting down together and cuddling on the couch and watching our favorite shows, we had long days at home or away and our ready to enjoy the peace. <div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span> A few things not tv related would be Angelika and the baby occupying her tummy, as always things are going well and we look forward to the arrival of another little munchkin in January, as per usual anyone under the age of 40 is pregnant in our church again so there will be whole new round of babies to compete with. <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>T</span>he Deck. Yes it is done, a few minor cosmetics on the lower portion but it is quite usable just in time for fall, the fences are done also, approximately 150 feet or so, i love building fences and would do that again anyday. The yard needs more dirt but that will fill up soon and we will plant grass as early as possible next year so we have a nice lawn to go with the fences and deck. I should put in writing that pretty much any who reads this will be invited to multiple bbq's next year as i will be happy to trap your kids in my yard while we all sit on the deck relaxing. </div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>Here a few pictures of our kids who i think had a pretty great summer.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Jacob and Angelikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17834656734375573266noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5925832881382707072.post-25435690144467512932009-12-24T08:44:00.001-08:002009-12-24T09:13:01.660-08:00Christmas timeChristmas is mint. I love the last day of work before the big break, normally we work half a day on christmas eve but not so this year, the lack of snow this year has bin dissapointing but we made sure to enjoy whatever snow we got, a walk with family in fort langley and a walk/sledding with michelle and terry and kids. we have had lots of people from our church move into our area this year, there is now four couples only a few blocks away now, its cool running into people on the street or the local superstore. Me and Angelika both love Christmas i love snow and she loves to decorate the house, we are looking forward to hanging out with family and relaxing and enjoying Christmas, which as we keep telling madison is Jesus birthday. Hope you all enjoy your break and relax and get a chance to reflect on how blessed we are all.Jacob and Angelikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17834656734375573266noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5925832881382707072.post-59623364224875427382009-10-15T21:57:00.000-07:002009-10-15T22:15:21.648-07:00Lukas turns one !<div style="text-align: center;">Today we celebrated Lukas turning 1, the usual cake and coffee and our parents over to celebrate. I cant help but look back over this year, i know Angelika would agree with me and say the first 6 months were lousy, madison was easy and lukas was not. Like all parents that are frustrated with a child you just need to look at them while they sleep to remember why your doing this. I still find it totally awesome i have a son, a boy, someone to pee in the trees with, someone to wrestle, someone to play lego with. I look forward to all these boy things and i can see the boy coming out already, he climbs everything, eats everything, smiles when you body slam him into the bed. he is my boy. </div><img style="display:block; Wednesday 8 am. two times that are seemingly unimportant. The first is when my cousins were traveling back to their home in California. The Second is when i told Angelika that we should go with. <div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>After much begging and pleading with my dad (1 of my 2 bosses, the other was on vacation luckily) i was able to get the time off work, Angelika took a little more convincing but eventually agreed. Josh and Rachel (my cousins) were happy and suprised i manage to pull this off, so we set off for California. near the alex fraser bridge i got a call saying they had a flat tire. 1 hour later.<br /></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>The Border. 90 minute wait to cross so we went to the duty free bought a bottle of water and cut down our time considerably (remember this if you ever take the truck crossing) as we crossed the border my cousins got pulled over and were delayed 4o minutes. We continued without them and would meet them in portland, that was at 12:30, some horrific traffic and a few cities later they pulled in at 9:30.<br /></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>Okay its a new day, everything bad from the first day is behind us. this day starts good as our hotel has no breakfast and theres does, so free breakfast and a good start to the day. we have 8 hours of driving ahead of us and this day goes well, it is just long. one incident involves a cop and two minivans doing u-turn across three lanes in a intersection. my cousin saw the cop directly behind him but did the u-turn anyway following me as i attempted to find the I-5 again. A warning is all he gave and we were on our way. the second involves madison pooping her pants while swimming, luckily she is out of the water for this. <br /></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>Getting closer now the next day is a shorter drive only 6 hours or so, but we drive so efficiently that we skip our stop and just keep going to there home which adds about three hours. An awesome stop at the the California Pizza Kitchen for dinner and then we are home in Corona, California.<br /></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>What an awesome week we had, went to the beaches and got nice and tan, jumped waves, attempted body surfing, went to the olive garden with 5 kids. Did some shopping with only one kid while madison shadowed Elise (my cousins 5 year old daughter). we hung out at home and played in the pool, my cousin josh cut my hair using a trimmer and i was so impressed we bought one and Angelika is now in charge of cutting my hair. We had a great time and were very impressed with the kids while driving, the tvs we bought for the way home definitely helped though. <br /></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>The drive home was boring compared to the way down as we had an exciting destination and some adults to converse with before we went to bed. I think me and Angelika looked forward to the continental breakfast every morning. On the way home we did see a car pulled over and about 40 bags of marijuana laid out on the freeway, did i mention the 5 cop cars also. The scariest moment involved a pee break at some hick like gas station, As you head into the bathroom there is a an old cast iron tub with a full dressed up mannequin sitting inside, it shocked both of us and it was awkward peeing while it stared at me. <br /></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>Now that we are home it is time to get back to normal life, August was a good month as i only worked 6 days which was pretty sweet. Work is getting busy and side jobs keep piling up so its good to be home and get back in the groove. Hope everyone had an a awesome summer.<br /></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span><br /></div>Jacob and Angelikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17834656734375573266noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5925832881382707072.post-53037326444499297802009-08-12T22:33:00.000-07:002009-08-12T22:49:33.268-07:00SummerVacations pretty much rule the purpose of my life in the summer, hence the lag in posting. Summer has bin very awesome for us. Angelika went camping with her sisters in osooyos and then two weeks later we all went as a family and had a great time, having a trailer with air conditioning certainly made the difference as it went above 40. Lukas is changing every so quickly, we beleive he has decided to skip crawling and just attempt walking, so he is pulling himself up on everything and can hold his balance for a few seconds before plopping onto his bum. there are so many pictures to post i have put them on facebook so you can view them by clicking <a href="http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=296993&id=816895272&l=24c869aafa">here</a>. more pictures to come.Jacob and Angelikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17834656734375573266noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5925832881382707072.post-90995718075732142962009-04-06T21:03:00.000-07:002009-04-06T21:59:21.747-07:00Tuxedos and NudityWe just back from a trip to edmonton with our friends Andrew and Rachel and had a really good time. We went without the kids and thought we would get to catch up on some sleep, that was a mistake as we went to bed really late every night, but it was well worth it. Me and andrew went to the shooting range in the mall which was a ton of fun, we also went to the canucks/oilers game in which we lost but we still had lots of fun as everyone around us was pretty funny. Angelika and Rachel went for a nice massage and shopped there butts off. Rachel got sick of hanging out with us so faked a nap one afternoon :) while the three of us went to the waterpark. We also took Andrew on his first roller coaster ride, we all had sore necks after the first ride and were pretty much done with the theme park. It was a great trip and it was nice to get to know our best friends without kids around. <div>Speaking of our kids we were very happy to see them again and madison couldnt let go of Angelika for quite a while. We are glad to be back and happy that the sun is shining again. I posted a couple sweet photos of our son posing nude and wearing his first tuxedo.<br /><div><div><br /></div><div><br /><br /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; She is now 2 yrs and 4 months and is FINALLY staying dry throughout the day. She doesn't tell me when she has to go, but seems to hold it until i put her back on the potty. Only time she doesn't make it is when we are away from home for a couple of hours. So???? Can i call it potty trained? Still smaller than the rest of the kids his age, but he is good on his tummy as you can see, only gets up once between 4-6 in the morning and is such a happy baby when he's not tired or hungry. So we heard the song 'Happy Birthday' many times. She's got some other things that she constantly says as well. One is 'Dokey, Dokey.' and we can't get through to her that its 'Okey Dokey'. She's finally singing 'Jesus loves me', 'Running over', and 'My God is so big' on her own, as well as some of the alphabet and numbers 1-10 (only forgetting the 5) She also walks into a room, closes the door and hides, but then can't get out again. <div><br /></div><div>Otherwise, Jake and I are going to Edmonton with another couple coming up in April. You may be asking why we are going there? Just a weekend away from the kids and Where else for such a low price can you get all the entertainment you want in one building? Oh, and there is an Oilers home game against the Canucks that weekend. We'll let you guys know how it went when we get back. Should be good though.</div>Jacob and Angelikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17834656734375573266noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5925832881382707072.post-73908425646191857582009-03-09T16:18:00.000-07:002009-03-09T19:55:41.605-07:00Madison and Lukas Dedication LetterMom and I are here today to make a promise to the both of you and to Jesus Christ to raise you knowing the love and grace of our Lord. Not only do we promise to teach you, but also show you through our lives how to have this relationship.<div><br /></div><div>Madison, our months before your birth were a blessing and test to our faith. But you were a perfect healthy baby, unlike what we were told to prepare ourselves for. And you have been such a joy and blessing to have with us in everything we do. We chose Psalm 25: 4-5 for you as a verse to always come back to as you grow up. It says : </div><div><br /></div><div>'Show me your ways, O Lord, Teach me your paths;</div><div>Guide me in your truth and teach me,</div><div>for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long '</div><div><br /></div><div>Lukas, you are still quite young and have been quite a challenge with your strong will, but every time we look at you and see your smile and hear your noises we are reminded of Jesus continuous blessings for you. I chose psalm 73: 24-26 for you :</div><div><br /></div><div>You guide me with your counsel, and afterward You will take me into glory.</div><div>Whom have in heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.</div><div>My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.</div><div><br /></div><div>God has given us both of you as a gift to raise and care for and we will do everything to point you to Jesus with his guidance and the help of our family and friends. We pray for both of you that you will one day accept Jesus Christ as your own personal Savior and that you may be a light to the people around you. That even as you encounter hard times, that you wont hide this light, but use it as your strength and your guide.</div>Jacob and Angelikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17834656734375573266noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5925832881382707072.post-68800102245539814152009-02-07T20:47:00.000-08:002009-02-07T21:25:49.337-08:00Progress. it is a good word and i can finally say that my basement is worthy of that. everything is drywalled and taped and this morning in my underwear i went and sanded down the walls, my white face and dustfilled glasses only added to the look. Life at home continues to be awesome, with a daughter who everytime i walk in the door after work asks me "Are you dirty ?". Lukas continues to be more alert and more active, giving us tons of smiles and really getting into colors and shoving his hands down his mouth, we think he might be teething or will be quickly he also is starting to turn onto his side. Angelika got a new haircut and went shorter and she looks smokin hot with her new dew. Work has bin steady but we have done no new jobs since mid december, so it looks like we might run out of work soon, what this means im not sure, maybe time off or maybe time to find another job, on a sidenote dont you think its time for a new bathroom ? <br /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPmxixaLajNV6cZMVLYAxfGnNrAZF0KdC-vbEr9AdBFtavM8HzATuPO5692R0zdTy7ZKGkrU8RxnBzV2QEuKjguCNTYEQ_WifXhx4C4XW95ePT2nl0O-_gVUXNndo904bm0oxQhOr9638/s320/IMG_4121.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300293149723372690" /><div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT1tGChzFzqoXy_zJbL7yA2PmTdMV1MxLJBJKqwkSEr3VusCfoulHj2NMsvAhWXXHnBaZ_bRi_PqXQ4R93CDq0RqmkjJvRBxmFZVmUiZ4W-7FTGbrj6rNd9wL4IXo8fhyphenhyphenEmYK57vw-ARo/s320/IMG_4100.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300293145357742258" /></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZVepNQsLCWZvx6Df1sHmrMe7m-cq0dnoTvcvyVpv7WHweXcxcyzUFn2rXpKM4DVvab76gQt1mdhkGGHF2f6ffL6g7Ixk33CT5Wj5QzwDIfnVOMYNG1jcyrChGBRpO240ICRAu8e2arOw/s320/IMG_4085.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300293139634835234" />Jacob and Angelikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17834656734375573266noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5925832881382707072.post-21090555935090919772009-02-07T20:33:00.000-08:002009-02-07T21:27:49.307-08:00SWAT6-1 so far, go canucks. Anyhoo last week there was a swat team in our neighbourhood, i was working outside and heard over a loud speaker that "the house is surrounded, we have a warrant", i came to the front and sure enough there were cop cars blocking all the roads in and out and about 4 very large suv's with guys standing around. Eventually they all ran in and stormed the house. Not sure what they were after but it was an interesting afternoon.<br /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcmMcRxr-15n8RKvVeHXeJP0c5h5i_mdOKVLqLlFGHWA177gFVLUKiKuZXbGew0Fl2IQQjYrLWqA9m7aOTj45TnvblZu0NDQI3d5HKe9OPDNUb0qL8R8gufkWUOqm0XtEtwdNXOeGw0G4/s320/IMG_4083.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300282480477166450" /><div><br /></div><div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcFgqEJ8HJZ9BoF2a62RdAqXYbmKOiU4NrTThuBWkh4rQ-RVd6m_X0yidfqZhNOFCWSK53PC9JfEQav6mggzMvlJI5DBjxNp70f6cCgpdtK2Adtp4dTy31LCmvD4MWqYr0d3q2SwF_DCQ/s320/IMG_4082.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300282475232045730" /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Jacob and Angelikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17834656734375573266noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5925832881382707072.post-3219181743068709322009-01-26T20:43:00.000-08:002009-01-26T21:37:55.602-08:00The forecast calls for snow tomorrow, either it will dump like crazy or it wil be nothing at all. Im always in favor of the word dump when its followed by snow. its bin way too long to try and update what has happened since last time, so here is a summary : snowed, wroked, snowed, stopped working, snowed, christmas, snowed, snowed, canucks start losing. now its the end of january and that is where we stand. Life at home is getting alot better with Lukas starting to fall asleep at a regualr time and sleeping till 4 or 5 in the morning and then back down till 8, he varies occasionally but we are quite glad he is getting on schedule. Madison is becoming much more challenging, and just needs alot of attention to keep her out of trouble. she is as cute as ever though and keeps us smiling. enjoy the photos.<br /><br /><img style="display:block; It was a very cool building and nice to walk around in, we even got to skate around as they had free rentals for anyone who wanted to go. Madison tried a pair on and even they were to big for her feet we took her out for a skate, she loved it and we will be trying that again. Afterwards we were treated to dinner at whitespot by our parents and all was well until just before we left when madison peuched her little belly out, almost got in Angelika's mouth. Needless to say Angelika left the restaurant in a t-shirt even though it was bloody cold. Lukas has been sick lately and has a nasty cough and last thursday he was up all night so Angelika was quite tired. he is getting better now and hopefully everyone is healthy for christmas time. time for church. ciao.<div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Jacob and Angelikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17834656734375573266noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5925832881382707072.post-81901549642120322322008-11-28T17:11:00.000-08:002008-11-28T17:57:08.211-08:00Where to Start<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV0A0CWrjuywc_nXxoCU6nP4EWrKgS5ysIhO8wm8cBoWJ_S4TRun-bX_bUAJ04fYJa_IaZFvVKUVcRVpA8hgd2dLJI_WnKPTxeIcy7buE6uw5ExcrdzIvSm8QXjrtytz4_z2Y08tx-Phg/s1600-h/photos+332.jpg"><img style="display:block; We are enjoying our time together as a family we seem so much more like a family with two kids now, maybe cause we take that much more stuff with us when we go out or maybe cause we each get to hold a child. <div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>Since the last update we took madisons out for Halloween to just a couple houses and she had a big bear suit on and looked pretty cool. She liked the whole idea of having a bag full of candy, as did i. Nov.10 was madisons 2nd birthday so we had both sets of parents over for cake and madison got absolutely spoiled, i still think she got too many gifts and will definitely be telling the oma and opas to calm down a little, you can always buy me a TV instead. <br /></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>Our first night away from lukas for some Jacob & Angelika time happened when the new James Bond came out, we went and saw it with Andrew & Rachel Cornelsen who are quickly becoming our best friends and we seem to mesh quite well, after the movie we went for some dinner and then hung out a bit. it was a fun date night and were hoping to do that again. <br /></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>Those are the majors things to talk about, we are looking forward to christmas and are picking up our tree this weekend, angelika is a bit off christmas nut so the house will be christmas like very soon. I am off to go on a hot date with someone (Angelika) so time to take the kids to opa and oma humm. <br /></div>Jacob and Angelikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17834656734375573266noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5925832881382707072.post-9064350707370890212008-10-22T20:39:00.000-07:002008-10-22T20:46:48.936-07:00Big sisterWell, Madison is such a great big sister. The first thing she says to me when i get her in the mornings is 'Lukas???" Then i went to mom and dads and when it was time to go, Madison wasn't putting her shoes and Jacket on so dad said to her. 'Ok, bye madison. Opa is going with Lukas, Bye, Bye.' Man did we experience a freak out on her behalf. Lastly. Mom and i were in Superstore when mom started to walk away with the cart while Lukas was in it. I wasn't going with her and Madison started crying. I told her to go with Oma, but that just wasn't good enough. She had to keep all three of us together. Im so thankful that she adjusted so easily. I think because she's so young still, she doesn't remember a time without Lukas anymore. Hopefully she remains that way when we have another one. Then she really can help me out more.Jacob and Angelikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17834656734375573266noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5925832881382707072.post-39929441670700622912008-10-16T18:26:00.000-07:002008-10-16T19:04:00.151-07:00Lukas Hummelman<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_jjLoprGPMoF0Nw4GqKBUNfEEMdeA3__FmvgJFY0IUqRv1kw-VuKmVa_DTABvfpLCJ7odoYLzp39poEl880XLH7aH_JJMlCj5Rqv8yMjP1kgQ5JVU89EaaLkrF2NgdNGPajQB6r0E3Bw/s1600-h/IMG_3536.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_jjLoprGPMoF0Nw4GqKBUNfEEMdeA3__FmvgJFY0IUqRv1kw-VuKmVa_DTABvfpLCJ7odoYLzp39poEl880XLH7aH_JJMlCj5Rqv8yMjP1kgQ5JVU89EaaLkrF2NgdNGPajQB6r0E3Bw/s320/IMG_3536.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257932399434112738" /></a>Lukas Edward Hummelman was born on October 15, 2008 @ 2:06 am after 5 minutes of pushing. I was induced and within the first half hour the contractions started and didn't stop. So that means 11:30am on the 14th until he was born. My water didn't break until 2 am though so i guess thats when people start counting actually labour. We definately weren't expecting to see a little boy when he came so it was quite the surprise for Jake and I. Jake was overwhelmed with the idea of having a little boy.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcq8vhcw4Sua8JIyvnoVT3fPoBOCzsWunhIoK11HP48_OPEcHy1ej7SVd4NMi2GtaLmd6nvLQW0DqZ54WBTk97ZBUqCrU6XxPyn-neIB9iMgOZ0C2vSX9yb6LRVf4p_KNv0oWxGkn8lm4/s1600-h/IMG_3541.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcq8vhcw4Sua8JIyvnoVT3fPoBOCzsWunhIoK11HP48_OPEcHy1ej7SVd4NMi2GtaLmd6nvLQW0DqZ54WBTk97ZBUqCrU6XxPyn-neIB9iMgOZ0C2vSX9yb6LRVf4p_KNv0oWxGkn8lm4/s320/IMG_3541.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257932400682637522" /></a>We couldn't have been luckier with Madison either. We both had our birthdays in september with me turning 25 and Angelika turning 28. For Angelikas birthday we brought down her best friend from invermere and she stayed with us for the week. Madison will still randomly ask where theo (karens oldest) is. <div> We also went to the MCC sale with Rachel Cornelsen, Andrew was taking his hunting license so i was forced to eat his share of farmer sausage. It was pretty cool and next year i will sit at the auction all day buying things. love auctions. <div> Angelika has developed a pretty bad cough for the last ten days and hasnt been sleeping well/at all, she is looking forward to getting some sleep before the baby comes and she will start losing it again, my responsibility at night will be madison (easy) and during the day to make sure i give her lots of attention when the baby comes, which means we are going to drive over speed bumps and visit home depot and most likely watch hockey together. I will post as soon as the baby arrives, im sure im allowed labtops in the hospital.<br /><div> </div></div></div>Jacob and Angelikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17834656734375573266noreply@blogger.com3
